A rare life-sized statue of Buddha that was smashed into pieces with a sledgehammer by construction workers in Pakistan’s northwest Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. Four persons were arrested on Saturday for vandalising the statue that was discovered during an excavation at an agriculture farm.

A video went viral on social media showing a man smashing the statue, parts of which were still embedded underground, into pieces with a sledgehammer.

Let’s analyse that what’s been told in Islam on this regards.

Islamic perspective on other faiths

Allah says in the Quran:

And do not insult those they invoke other than Allah, lest they insult Allah in enmity without knowledge. Thus We have made pleasing to every community their deeds. Then to their Lord is their return, and He will inform them about what they used to do.

(Al Quran: 6:108)

What does Allah say on this very verse?
He says that “Then to their Lord is their return, and He will inform them about what they used to do.”

Despite the calling towards Allah, Almighty commands us that not to insult their Gods by any means.

If we’ve not been commanded to insult their Gods and faiths, yes we too not have been commanded to vandalise their idols/Gods too.

Holy Quran says:

Those who have been evicted from their homes without right – only because they say, “Our Lord is Allah .” And were it not that Allah checks the people, some by means of others, there would have been demolished monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques in which the name of Allah is much mentioned. And Allah will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.

(Al Quran: 22:40)

Therefore insulting the Gods of other faiths and demolishing their synagogues, monasteries and Churches have been strictly prohibited. As Muslims we live with Multi cultures and multi communities that of different faiths. We must practice ourselves to respect each and everyone’s faiths as commanded in Islam.
