A massive protesting procession was launched by Sri Lanka Thawheed Jama’ath (SLTJ) in Colombo on 03rd November 2016 against the government’s effort to amend the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act for the sake of getting the GSP + trade concessions of European Union back to Sri Lanka. The Secretary of Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Himi had threatened that they would chase and beat if Muslims launch the specified protest. However, the Thawheed Jama’ath surpassing the threat of Gnanasara Himi accomplished the specific demonstration in a democratic way within the framework of law.
In the particular protest, it was clearly depicted with regard to the amendments on the Muslims’ Personal Law for the purpose of obtaining the GSP + concessions. Following it, it was also talked the views of Gnanasara Himi who had already threatened to chase and beat the Muslims participating in Thawheed Jama’ath’s procession.
In the court case filed against talking in opposition to Gnanasara Himi in the specific procession, the Secretary of the Thawheed Jama’ath, Bro. Abdur Razik was arrested charging that he had infringed the conditions of the bail that was already given for a previous case filed accusing against religious blasphemy.
At this juncture, each and every one has been expressing many different kinds of narrations and views according to their imaginations with regard to the arrest of the Secretary of Thawheed Jama’ath.
Did the Secretary of Thawheed Jama’ath function as the informer of the NIB?
On 23rd November 2016, participating in a press conference meeting of announcing the cabinet decisions, Minister Rajitha Senaratne while speaking informed that the Secretary of Thawheed Jama’ath, Bro. Abdur Razik functioned as an informer for the NIB operated under the control of the Defence Secretary, Gotabaya Rajapaksha in the former government.
It is totally a bogus and untruthful information
A Cabinet Minister being in an important responsible position of announcing the decisions of the cabinet ministries should avoid revealing such imaginary news and views.
The Minister should understand that the Secretary of Thawheed Jama’ath has been allegedly remanded for violating the conditions of the bail as per the law court, not any other allegations rather than it the court has put on him.
Is it treason to keep contact with NIB?
As far as a country is concerned, it is usual to have several security divisions functioning to strengthen the defence of a country.
The NIB is also a government controlled investigation division like the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Terrorist Investigation Division (TID), Colombo Crime Division (CCD), etc. In particular, the contributions of the NIB during the internal war against the LTTE in the previous government were very much important.
As far as a significant government institution that carefully concentrates on the defence of Sri Lanka, it is a common process of their usual activities to maintain a smooth relationship with all institutions, movements, societies and civil organizations.
In that sense, it is an essential duty of our organization which maintains openness in illustrating the activities of Thawheed Jama’ath when we are inquired by the CID, TID, CCD or be it the NIB.
If any questions put forwarded by the security divisions of the country with regard to our activities, we would answer maintaining the openness as our Thawheed Jama’ath has been functioning in a democratic way obeying the laws of the country.
The NIB is a government intelligence institution. It is not a terrorist organization. We would like to clearly mention it to the Minister that finding fault on the activities that we maintain openness with the intelligence divisions or describing it as a wrong activity is not a proper trend or approach of a responsible Cabinet Minister.
The person who created the false doubt is the leader of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress.
After the demonstration of the Thawheed Jama’ath, the leader of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, Minister Rauf Hakeem who has been conveying the views regarding Thawheed Jama’ath is the person who created the foundation for the statement of the Minister Rajitha Senaratne.
In every place where he has been expressing opinions on the protest of the Thawheed Jama’ath, Minister Hakeem says that there is a bond between the Thawheed Jama’ath and the former Predident Mahintha Rajapaksha and the ex-Defence Secretary, Gotabaya Rajapaksha. Further, Minister Hakeem says that both Bodu Bala Sena, the racist organization and the Thawheed Jama’ath, the Islamic preaching organization are operated by the same person.
It is absolutely a false acme of imagination. Personalities in responsible positions like Minister Hakeem should avoid such bogus allegations and unnecessary opinions for the purpose of defending their mere political existence.
Thawheed Jama’ath is a huge Muslim community movement. The Minister’s views show us that this is the only first time today we had a demonstration. In the previous government too in times when there were a lot of atrocities and injustice extended by the racists against Muslim community, this Thawheed Jama’ath only raised its voice against racism while Minister Hakeem being surprised reticence.
Not only that. It is the only pioneering Islamic organization that reached the top place in donating blood in the country. For the past three years we have received the top blood donor awards from the National Blood Transfusion Services of Sri Lanka.
Even in the huge flood that occurred in Colombo recently, this Thawheed Jama’ath deployed its complete volunteers in the field to recover the people from the areas and served for the people suffered in the devastation.
This is the Thawheed Jama’ath that undertakes several massive community service programmes without getting any assistance from any foreign organizations or governments. We never agree with the allegations and the scandalizing expressions of the leader of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress for a mere political benefit saying that our organization is attempting to raise fund from outsiders. Thawheed Jama’ath is an organization functioning with a by-law in which it is clearly written as an organizational rule not to take any financial assistance from any overseas funding agencies. At this juncture, how a responsible Minister could have expressed such vain opinions in public.
Minister Rajitha Senaratne has revealed his opinion connecting Thawheed Jama’ath with the former Defence Secretary. The founder of this opinion is the Minister Rauf Hakeem.
Minister Rauf Hakeem has revealed his powerful imaginary resource by connectively talking about an organization that strives hard in democratic ways for the rights of Muslims raising its voice for the survival of the Muslims and against racism with a former President who was totally rejected by the whole Muslim community.
Thawheed Jama’ath demonstrations are not new.
It is not new for the Thawheed Jama’ath to hold demonstration raising voice for the rights. On the contrary, we had done several demonstrative processions of this nature before in a democratic way.
We had made various protests against the former President, Mahinda Rajapaksha in times of his regime. We would like to request the Minister Hakeem not to make attempt to reduce the Honours of a responsible position you possess by saying false information about an organization that performs spiritual services without any political or materialistic benefits or a politics that protects the voters-bank sustainably.
Making a request not to do politics in the issues on rights
The Secretary of Thawheed Jama’ath, Bro. Abdur Razik participating in the demonstration that was organized to protect the rights of Muslims, delivered a speech against the government’s decisions of putting its hands in the Muslims’ Personal Law concerning Muslims’ rights.
A court case has been filed regarding this issue. At this juncture, we earnestly request the politicians not to make this issue as a gaining of politics.
We are not an organization involving in politics in any way. In contrast, we are an organization that preaches Islam and performs good deeds and services more and more in comparing to other organizations in Sri Lanka.
Our Jama’ath Secretary’s arrest is unjust and we will face this particular matter of apprehend in a legal manner to prove our side’s justice as per the law and order of our beloved mother land.
So, therefore we request the Ministers or the opposition parties not to do politics in this stuff, please.
